Responding to the Cold Temperatures, Wind and Ice
March 2009 - On the morning of January 16, 2009, it was minus 7 degrees - the lowest temperature in Pittsburgh since January 19, 1994, when it dipped to minus 22 degrees. That is the all time record low for Pittsburgh according to Dennis Bowman at KDKA.
The cold, wind and ice of mid-January didn’t stop the crew at Massaro Restoration. In fact, they kicked into high gear in order to respond to the many emergency calls received as a result of the deep freeze. Calls from insurance companies, home owners and commercial building owners were among the many in need of emergency response and reconstruction. Damage from frozen pipes and copper supply lines caused flooding, which amounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars lost due to the winter conditions.
In order to appropriately respond to the high demands of the winter season, we added personnel to help manage the influx of calls. Chuck Crawford is a newly appointed assistant project coordinator who will assist Chad Salerno to coordinate activities at our projects. Chuck has been with Massaro for over two years as a field technician and recently accepted this promotion and added responsibilities. Additionally, Joe Stanonis was hired in early February as a field technician to add to our team of qualified professionals. Joe has several years of restoration experience and will soon be attending classes for IIRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification).
